    Course description and aims

    This qualification reflects the role of individuals who combine technical, creative and conceptual skills to create designs that meet client requirements and solve a range of visual communication challenges. Practice at this level is underpinned by application of design theory and practice and the ability to analyse and synthesise information from a range of sources to generate design solutions.

    Practitioners may work in many different commercial and community contexts across both print and digital media.

    This graphic design course will teach you the skills, knowledge and attitudes required to develop and communicate creative graphic design solutions across print and digital design. You will learn to combine technical, creative and conceptual skills to create designs that meet client requirements and solve a range of visual communication challenges, and be able to analyse and synthesise information from a range of sources to generate design solutions.

    At Design Centre Enmore you can study either:
    - Diploma of Graphic Design or
    - Diploma of Graphic Design (Illustration)

    Other Requirements

    To enter this qualification you will need to already have a sound understanding of design theory and practice. These skills and knowledge may have been gained through personal or work experience or through completion of formal study, such as the Certificate IV in Design.

    Course outcomes and careers

    You will be able to work as a visual communicator in many different commercial and community contexts across both print and digital media, working in junior or generalist roles, including areas such advertising and promotion, art direction and branding.

    Articulation

    Graduates may engage in further learning in vocational education through the CUA60315 Advanced Diploma of Graphic Design, higher education qualifications in graphic design and broader areas of practice, such as digital media or other design disciplines. When you finish this course, you may also be eligible to apply for entry into a TAFE NSW Higher Education course.

    Entry requirements

    To enter this qualification, individuals must provide evidence of their technical skills and ability to:
    - produce multiple examples of graphic design work that respond effectively to different design challenges
    - produce typography that supports the overall design solution
    - use graphic design industry software

    Skills may have been acquired through personal or work experience, or through formal study.

    The Diploma of Graphic Design will provide you with employable skills and knowledge in creative thinking, concept development, analysis and problem solving. You will study communication techniques using relevant media and technologies which you can apply to the development of dynamic visual design solutions. Subject areas include typography, design thinking, computer skills for digital and print media, branding, packaging, drawing and illustration, and portfolio.

    On successful completion, you will have developed the skills and knowledge required for employment as an entry level graphic designer.
    This qualification provides an educational pathway to the Advanced Diploma of Graphic Design.

    Preferred entry requirement: Certificate IV in Graphic Design; or equivalent study or employment experience, evidenced via portfolio and interview.

    Tuesday 24 January 2017 from 1.00pm to 2.00pm or 3.00pm to 4.00pm or 5.00pm to 6.00pm at St George College, Building M, Ground Floor, Room MG44, 19 Montgomery St Kogarah.

    Please note this will be a combined information session for fine Arts, Art Administration, Fashion and Graphic Design courses.

    Indicative timetable:

    You will need to attend approximately 16 hours of class a week over 5 days. An indication of how your weekly timetable may look is: Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 4:30pm
