English and learning help along the way

Sometimes you may need extra help with a particular subject or skill. We offer language, literacy and numeracy support for all our students - local and international - so that you can achieve your best.

How we support you is determined by your learning needs.

Learning support benefits students at all levels

You can be a student studying at any level and benefit from learning support. We can help if you find some of the content of your course difficult to understand or tasks difficult to complete or if you are falling behind in your studies.

Learning support for local students

Learning support can include helping you to develop skills in:

  • Note-taking in class and when reading information
  • Reading course notes and documents to determine the main idea
  • Using appropriate reading strategies to access information
  • Research for assignments
  • Essay and report writing skills
  • Using memory techniques, and
  • Studying effectively for exams.

English language and cultural awareness

If you come from a non-English speaking background we can help you to develop the required English language and cultural awareness skills to adapt and contribute to life in Australia.  As well as the above skills, we offer students from a non-English speaking background support in:

  • English grammar, pronunciation and communication skills
  • Cross-cultural awareness in the workplace
  • Employment-seeking skills
  • Digital literacy and emerging technologies, and
  • Support for professional entrance exams (Occupational English Tests).

Support for international students

If you are an international student we can tailor learning support to your needs.

Learner support can include helping you to develop skills in:

  • Research for assignments
  • Essay and report writing skills
  • Using memory techniques, and

International students can also receive learner support in:

  • English for Vocational Purposes
  • Cross-cultural awareness in the workplace, and
  • Digital literacy and emerging technologies.

YourTutor academic support

YourTutor is your one-to-one, online, on-demand study help centre. It’s free for all Sydney TAFE students.

You can connect live with a personal tutor from the comfort of your home or any Sydney TAFE campus, between 3:00pm – midnight Sunday to Friday, to ask questions and get help when you need it, or upload your writing drafts and receive feedback within 24 hours. Connect to a tutor for free, via your course Moodle or Student Portal

You'll have access to online support with your homework, assignments, essays and/or English skills as well as for subjects including business, health, science, maths, accounting and economics.
