    Course description and aims

    Learning how to program opens up endless opportunities and has endless benefits. The job market wants and needs you, and itÂ’s fun!

    There are lots of programming languages out there to choose from. All languages were created for a specific reason, and have evolved and contributed in some way to the technological advances of our times.

    Java is a mature language, relatively easy to learn and being an Object oriented programming language is a perfect language to start your web development career.
    By completing this course, you will gain all the knowledge you will need to build basic interactive command line programs in Java.

    In this Two-Part course, Part 1 will teach you:

    1. Use basic data types to store and name data
    2. Use conditionals and looping to control program flow
    3. Repetition structures (Loops)
    4. Classes and Objects
    5. Error Handling
    6. Inheritance

    This course will provide a starting point for learning the basics of Object oriented programming using java as a programming language. After completing this course you become fully equipped to dive deep into our more advanced development courses.

    Once completed you can expect to become proficient in the essentials of development with the java programming language. You will acquire a well-rounded knowledge of the basic syntax and programming structures.

    No previous experience is necessary, although some basic computer literacy and proficiency on Windows, Apple Mac OS X or Linux is required.

    This course is available to Australian Citizens or Australian Permanent Residents who are over 15 years of age, have left school and live or work in NSW.

    Attend the following information session to meet with the teaching staff, discuss the course and get more information about enrolment and next steps.

    Wednesday, 7 February 2018 at 2:00pm or 6:00pm at Ultimo College, Thomas Street Ultimo, Building G, Ground Level, Room GG.19.

    Indicative timetable:

    You will need to attend approximately 9 hours of class over 2 to 3 days a week for 2 weeks. An indication of how your weekly timetable may look is: Wednesday and Friday, 1:30pm to 4:30pm plus one full Saturday, 10:00am to 4:30pm
