Course description and aims
This short course, Essentials for Working in the Public Sector is aimed at people working within, or new to the public sector, this skill set provides an overview of the sector, an understanding of core public sector values and issues, and expectations relating to government services, communications, practices and processes.
Designed to meet the industry standard for people working in a Public Sector environment, you will complete the following competencies:
-PSPLEG002: Encourage compliance with legislation in the public sector
-PSPGEN043: Apply government processes
-PSPETH001: Uphold the values & principles of public service
-PSPPCY004: Support policy implementation.
Course outcomes and careers
Completion of this course provides a pathway into the Certificate IV in Government (PSP40116) with credit granted for these 4 units.
These units serve as a foundation for government qualifications and as an introduction to the Public Sector for new employees, team leaders or supervisors. Completion of this skill set contributes to most Certificate IV level government generalist and specialist qualifications. This Fee Free training opportunity is only available for a limited time and learners must meet eligibility requirements.
Learners must be:
- 15 years or older.
- have left school.
- live or work in NSW.
- Australian citizen or Australian permanent resident or humanitarian visa holder or New Zealand citizen.

Pre start information (e.g. timetable) will be emailed to you before your first class.
Attend the first class on Tuesday 30 May 2017 between 9:30am and 2:30pm at St George College, Main Campus, Cnr Princes Highway & President Avenue, Kogarah, Building F, Ground Floor, Room FG.24.
You will need to attend approximately 5 hours of class per week for over 4 weeks. An indication of how your weekly timetable may look is: Tuesday 9:30am to 2:30pm

This course is fully government-subsidised for eligible students, meaning you won't have to pay any course fees. It is part of a program to help people develop the skills they need to get a job, undertake entry level qualifications or transition to a new job.
You will need to attend four five-hour sessions, between 9:30am & 2:30pm, as follows: Tuesday 30 May, Tuesday 06 June; Tuesday 13 June & Tuesday 20 June 2017.
