    Course description and aims

    This qualification reflects the role of people providing design support for professional Engineers. They perform tasks involving a broad range of varied activities most of which are complex and non-routine, for example, this might include civil works drafting. They are responsible for applying the design work instructions and practices to ensure the quantity and quality of the output of others and contribute to the development of technical solutions to non-routine problems.

    After completing this nationally-recognised qualification, students will be ready for immediate employment in the fields of Civil and Structural Engineering as Draftsperson, Assistant site inspector, surveyorÂ’s assistant, assistant technician, quality officer or other roles which support professional engineers.

    On completion of Certificate IV in Civil Construction Design students can fast track into the Diploma of Civil Construction Design receiving substantial credit. This will allow to complete both qualifications in 1 year of full time study.

    Students graduating with Diploma of Civil Construction Design can move on to University studies with reduced study times. For example, Deakin University will credit your studies for up to 1 year against a 4-year Bachelor of Civil Engineering degree. This pathway does not require ATAR and cost 15% less than going directly to university.
