Course description and aims
The learner will gain knowledge in the origins of TutuÂ’s and skills on how to balance a tutu. The learner will also gain skills in contemporary construction and fitting techniques using specialised finishes and closures, handling techniques of specialist fabrics to include netting and silk.
This is a handÂ’s on workshop and the learner will complete a basic tutu.
At The end of this course students will be able to:
* Understand the history of the Tutu
* Identify the difference between a classic and stylised Tutu
* Identify tools, materials and textiles for Tutu making
* Use specialise sewing and finishing techniques to construct a Tutu
* Work with net
* Use specialist equipment
* Know how to balance a Tutu
Completing TuTu Making will contribute 18 hours of NESA Registered Professional Development addressing 6.2.2 and 7.2.2 from the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers towards maintaining Proficient Teacher Accreditation in NSW.

You will need to attend approximately 3 hours of class over 1 evening per week for 6 weeks. An indication of how your weekly timetable may look is: Thursday 5:00pm to 8:00pm.

Students will need to provide their own personal sewing and cutting equipment e.g. pins, fabric and paper scissors, tape measure, quick unpick, clippers, note pad and pen.
