    Course description and aims

    The learner will create a fully boned and lined corset using contemporary techniques that can be applied to formal wear or HSC projects.

    This is a handÂ’s on workshop and the learner will complete a basic Corset.

    This workshop is not designed for beginners. Learners need some skill and understanding in hand and machine sewing.

    At the end of this course students will be able to:
    * Understand the origins of the corset
    * Identify tools, materials and textiles for corset making
    * Use specialise sewing techniques to construct a corset
    * Style and fit a corset
    * Work with plastic bones and spiral steel bones
    * Set eyelets and apply lacing
    * Corset wearing

    Completing Corset Making will contribute 18 hours of NESA Registered PD addressing 6.2.2 and 7.2.2 from the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers towards maintaining Proficient Teacher Accreditation in NSW.

    Course outcomes and careers

    This is an endorsed NESA course. TAFE NSW is endorsed to provide NESA Registered Professional Development for teachers accredited at Proficient level.

    Indicative timetable:

    You will need to attend approximately 3 hours of class over 1 day for 6 weeks. An indication of how your weekly timetable may look is: Saturday, 1:00pm to 4:30pm.

    Students will need to provide their own personal sewing and cutting equipment e.g. pins, fabric and paper scissors, tape measure, quick unpick, clippers, note pad and pen.
