    Course description and aims

    This is a handÂ’s on workshop and the learner will complete pattern modifications to change a style.

    The learner will gain skills and knowledge to modify design detail on a commercial pattern using basic pattern modification and adjusting pattern for a customise fit.

    At the end of this course students will be able to:
    * Interpret commercial patterns and identify design features that can be modified to change a style
    * Identify the pattern pieces to be modified and plan the process.
    * Understand how modification can change the fit.
    * Alter modified pattern pieces to include adding seams, inserting gathers, altering necklines and armholes.
    * Sew a toile to confirm design changes and fit

    Completing Pattern Modification with Commercial Patterns will contribute 9 hours of NESA Registered PD addressing 6.2.2 and 7.2.2 from the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers towards maintaining Proficient Teacher Accreditation in NSW.

    Course outcomes and careers

    This is an endorsed NESA course. TAFE NSW is endorsed to provide NESA Registered Professional Development for teachers accredited at Proficient level.

    Indicative timetable:

    You will need to attend approximately 3 hours of class over 1 day per week for 3 weeks. An indication of how your weekly timetable may look is: Wednesday, 5:00pm to 8:00pm.

    Students will need to provide their own personal sewing and cutting equipment e.g. pins, fabric and paper scissors, tape measure, quick unpick, clippers, note pad and pen. Other equipment and resources will be provided.
