    Course description and aims

The aim of this course is to provide teachers with foundation skills to model data, design a database, build database and access them.

Looking at data and drawing conclusions is increasingly being used in business decision making. This process is commonly known as data analytics. It is becoming important for everyone to be able to comprehend and work with data, regardless of the industry sector.

This course will provide teachers with the fundamental skill of modelling data using industry accepted notation (UML Domain Models). Modelling data allows teachers to understand the base level data which when combined together over a period of time, or across locations, allow business conclusions to be drawn, in order to enhance profitability or efficiencies. These models can then be used to design databases on which analytical and transactional data can be stored and extracted. Designing databases involve transforming the data model into tables and then being able to build the database and access the information.

Completing Database Boost will contribute 24 hours of NESA Registered PD addressing 6.2.2 and 7.2.2 from the Australian Professional Standards for Teachers towards maintaining Proficient Teacher Accreditation in NSW.
