    Course description and aims

    This course is for people wanting to work as an engineering technician carrying out tasks such as engineering design and quality control/assurance monitoring.

    You will gain compulsory competencies in organising and analysing information, interacting with computing technology and selecting engineering materials. You will also gain a range of elective competencies in areas relevant to your current or intended employment, such as CAD, drafting, quality control/assurance, basic fluid power, basic mechanical design, production scheduling, cost estimating and non-destructive testing.

    The course duration will vary depending on the training pathway agreed to between you, your employer and the TAFE College.

    Course outcomes and careers

    Engineering Technician, at level C5 under the Metal, Engineering and Associated
    Industries Award.

    Articulation

    When you have completed this course you may be eligible to enrol in other
    courses in the Metal and Engineering Training Package.

    Units you achieve in the course count towards completion of MEM60112 Advanced
    Diploma of Engineering - Technical.

    You may be eligible to apply to enrol in engineering courses at university and
    gain advanced standing.

    Expected Outcomes

    This course is for people aiming at employment in the metal and engineering
    industry in occupations at engineering technician level carrying out tasks such
    as engineering design and quality control/assurance monitoring.

    You will gain compulsory competencies in organising and analysing information,
    interacting with computing technology and selecting engineering materials. You
    will also gain a range of elective competencies in areas relevant to your
    current or intended employment, such as CAD, drafting, quality
    control/assurance, basic fluid power, basic mechanical design, production

    The minimum requirements for this qualification can also be met by holders of
    the MEM30505 Certificate III in Engineering - Technical or equivalent, subject
    to the completion of the specified Core units of competency as well as the
    additional elective units drawn from Group B.

    There are no entry requirements for this qualification.

    However, it is recommended that applicants have the Certificate III in
    Engineering - Technical, or a NSW High School grades in Mathematics and Physics

    It is also recommended that applicants be already employed or seeking
    employment, in the Metals and Engineering industry.
