    Course description and aims

    The FDS Bachelor of Fashion Design is a three year design degree that prepares graduates for creative employment in the Fashion Industry in Australia and overseas.

    The degree aims to produce highly creative, work ready design professionals who can apply their knowledge and creative ability across various work contexts and in various fashion roles. Graduates will have knowledge of the whole fashion value chain and be equipped to manage the design development process from concept generation to realisation. Specifically, students will develop a range of skills and gain specific knowledge in design; fashion principles;
    illustration; visual communication; fashion production techniques; and professional practice.

    Whilst the emphasis of the program is on creative design practice, the program aims to produce graduates with broad knowledge and skills in fashion design as well as specialist knowledge in a specific area/field of fashion design. This is
    achieved through a detailed education in design theory and practice supported by comprehensive coverage of the relevant technical skills and related professional knowledge. This comprehensive education is augmented by two formal internships and the inclusion of elective specialist streams

    The specialisations commence at Level 200 with students exploring two elective areas before further specialising in one at Level 300. This specialisation informs much of the self-directed study at Level 300 which culminates in an
    original 'Fashion Collection'. Through this collection students explore and extend the design and construction capabilities within the specialisation. Development and realisation of the collection provides students with both
    specialist knowledge and a body of work, giving them a competitive employment advantage on graduating.
