    Course description and aims

Do you love children? Do you care about their learning and development? Do you believe the early childhood years prepares a person for life?

Since 2014, 50% of staff in a childcare centre must have the Early Childhood Education and Care Diploma or higher. This qualification can help you into a leadership or management role in the childcare industry. You may also be responsible for volunteers or other staff.

You will learn more complex skills regarding the care and education of those in early childhood. This includes how to foster cognitive development, physical development, social development, and language and communication development. You will also learn how to design, implement and evaluate programs and care routines, as well as working in partnership with families to provide appropriate care.

This qualification reflects the role of early childhood educators who are responsible for designing and implementing curriculum in early childhood education and care services. In doing so they work to implement an approved learning framework within the requirements of the Education and Care Services National Regulations and the National Quality Standard (the Australian Childrens Education and Care Quality Authority (ACECQA) publishes lists of approved early childhood education and care qualifications and information regarding regulatory requirements here: www.acecqa.gov.au)

For students seeking to complete a First Aid unit of competency as part of their program, you must be able to perform basic life support skills, for example control bleeding and perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR). If you have a disability that would prevent you from performing required basic life support skills you are advised that you will not be able to achieve the unit of competency.
