    Course description and aims

    This course provides an introduction to handbuilding techniques such as coiling,
    moulding and slab building - while developing your visual design ideas and
    decoration techniques. Participants will learn historical and contemporary
    methods to glaze, decorate and fire their works. We support and encourage
    students to develop their own ability and language in clay.

    You will learn about:
    - setting up for handbuilding - tools, selecting the right type of clay
    - basic techniques - coiling, moulding and slab building
    - introductory decoration techniques - working with slip, underglaze and glaze
    - basic technology - introductory information about glaze and how to fire a
    kiln.

    You will need to attend approximately 3 hours of class over 1 days per week for 9 weeks. An indication of how your weekly timetable may look is: Friday 10:00am to 1:00pm

    A Basic Ceramic Tool Kit will be required to successfully complete this course and can be purchased at your 1st class for $15.00. If you go on to further study you may decide to extend this tool kit with extra paint brushes, tools and specialist paints.
