    Course description and aims

    This program explores the creative and practical aspects of photography. In addition to learning about cameras, their use and handling, students will explore aspects of Photoshop/Light room, including planning shoots, transferring images to computer, manipulating/editing and repairing many common problems that may occur in the digital environment to enhance the user's experience. Students will work on projects to gain a basic understanding of all aspects of photography and Photoshop.

    The course covers topics such as:
    - core concepts such as aperture, shutter
    - techniques such as panning, time exposure
    - exposure meter techniques: reflected, incident contrast evaluation
    - visualisation strategies and creative thinking
    - enhancement techniques through dodging and burning, level adjustment, colour correction
    - optimising images for display on a range of devices

    Some small group work may be undertaken as dictated by students learning needs and skill levels.

    On completion of this training program, students may wish to continue to the Preparatory Skill Set for Professional Photo Imaging Practice, Certificate IV in Photography and Photoimaging or Diploma of Photoimaging. Please refer to the Careers Pathway brochure to review options and educational progression.

    You will need to attend 4 hours of class over 1 day per week for 12 weeks. Indicative timetable: Saturday, 1:00pm to 5:00pm

    Candidates will need to provide their own DSLR or digital rangefinder camera with full manual controls; portable hardrive approx 500GB and have a computer with basic imaging software to complete this course.
