Course description and aims
This is an entry level course at AQF level 1, for people who want to develop some employability skills to get a job or to go on to further training. If you have experienced barriers or interruptions to education due to cultural or language differences, poor health or isolation, this may be the best course for you. When you enrol, a teacher will help you determine the most appropriate level of training.
Course outcomes and careers
This course is a step in a series of courses to further training in
employability skills. It helps you go on to further training and to get a job.
Pathways from this course include:
- employment, further education and training requiring reading, writing,
numeracy and learning skills at ACSF Levels 2 -3
- Training Package qualifications at AQF Levels 1 and 2
- Certificate II in Skills for Work and Study
- Certificate II in Skills for Work and Training.
This course is designed for people who:
- require basic employability skills and knowledge who are operating at ACSF
level 2+ to 3
- seek a pre-vocational pathway to employment, training or community
On successful completion of this course the learner should be able to :
- develop basic employability skills and knowledge at AQF level 1
- identify realistic education/employment or community engagement goals and
appropriate training pathways
- participate in a formal, supported or self managed learning environment.
In addition, depending on the electives chosen, learners may also achieve one or
more of the following outcomes:
- enhance communication skills
- develop skills to retrain or enter the workforce (including entry level
- identify realistic education/employment options and appropriate educational
- improve opportunities for community participation and contributing to a
- use basic computer skills
- articulate into further education and training at AQF levels 1 and 2 e.g.
Certificate II in Skills for Work and Training, and relevant Training Package
qualifications, depending on vocational units of competency successfully
The AEET Framework units of competency in this qualification are generally
aligned to Levels 2 and 3 of the Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF). Refer
to individual units of competency for ACSF alignments.
Enrol at any location
This course has recently commenced. Please contact or visit your local college as soon as possible if you would like to join this course as there may still be places available. Please note that you may be required to undertake additional study if you commence late.
You will need to attend approximately 12 hours of class a week over 3 days. An indication of how your weekly timetable may look is: Monday, Wednesday & Thursday, 10:00am to 2:30pm

SMART AND SKILLED FEES
This course is government-subsidised, meaning you pay a portion of the full course fee to Sydney TAFE and the government will pay the balance. However, you must meet certain eligibility criteria for this to apply.
The fee category that will apply to you depends on your eligibility and your individual circumstances. Your fee and eligibility for concession/exemption will be calculated and confirmed during the enrolment process.
