    Course description and aims

    This course is for people from language backgrounds other than English who have post-intermediate English language skills. You will develop the English language speaking, listening, reading and writing skills that will help you participate in further training in vocational areas.

    The course helps you to develop English language skills for research, writing and spoken presentation, so you can apply to do further study at TAFE NSW or other post-secondary education institutions.

    Before you enrol in this course you need to have an interview. The interview will help to make sure this is the right course for you, in terms of your current English language skills and your future goals. Please contact your campus about this before you enrol.

    Course outcomes and careers

    This course helps you to proceed to vocational study at TAFE NSW and other
    post-secondary education institutions in fields with demanding speaking,
    listening, reading or writing requirements.

    Articulation

    When you finish this course you will have:
    - the English language skills necessary to apply to do other TAFE Certificate
    courses requiring Year 10 or equivalent;
    - the English language entry requirement to TAFE NSW courses requiring IELTS
    5.5 or 6.0 at entry.

    Expected Outcomes

    This qualification is designed for people who have minimum English language
    proficiency of 2+ on the International Second Language Proficiency Ratings
    (ISLPRr) scale, or International English Language Testing System (IELTS) 5 or
    equivalent.

    The outcomes of this course include:

    - English language proficiency (Level 3) on the ISLPR scale to participate
    in vocational training in fields with demanding speaking, listening, reading
    or writing requirements
    - English language proficiency to undertake qualifications requiring
    proficiency of ISLPRr 3, which provide a pathway to access employment or
    training
    - the English language entry requirement to TAFE NSW courses requiring IELTS
    5.5 or 6 at entry.

    The AEET Framework units of competency in this qualification are generally
    aligned to Levels 3 and 4 of the Australian Core Skills Framework (ACSF). Refer
    to individual units of competency for ACSF alignments.
