If you are already working in the industry and want to build on your career, you can apply for recognition of prior learning (RPL) so you don’t have to study what you already know.

Budding interpreter looks to the future

Marjorie comes from a Spanish background and is studying interpreting at night while working full-time. She is inspired by her teachers and by learning skills that can make a difference in the community.

Marjorie loves travelling and would like to take her skills to work overseas and one day work as an interpreter for the UN.

From Sydney TAFE to a degree

Create your own pathway from a diploma-level course in either translating or interpreting through to advanced diploma courses in both areas at Sydney TAFE. Certificate-level Auslan courses are also available.

The advanced diploma programs offer credit transfer to fast-track your degree after you finish your Sydney TAFE course.

Build extra skills into your career

Sydney TAFE offers you the opportunity of adding value to your skill-set through other programs including diploma and advanced diploma-level courses. Other opportunities include specific language-focused programs and introductory Auslan training for working with deaf and hearing impaired people.

Keely Double is studying Spanish at Sydney TAFE. She says her studies have given her the opportunity to not only learn a language spoken all over the world, but meet new friends and experience different cultures, all through an accredited course.
