Sydney TAFE gives you the advantage whatever the stage of your career.

  • Leaving school? Ask your careers adviser about TAFE-delivered High School (TVET) courses. A TVET course allows you to combine senior high school and TAFE studies.

Sydney TAFE can recognise your knowledge and life/work experience so you finish your qualification faster.

If you are already working in the industry and want to build on your career, you can apply for recognition of prior learning (RPL) so you don’t have to study what you already know.

Sydney TAFE is always developing innovative ways to deliver its courses, including evening and online options.

Taran Jenkins: Certificate III in Hairdressing (Apprenticeship)

Time for a change

After running her own dance studio for more than five years, Taran Jenkins sought out a career change. She wanted to do to feed her creative side while taking on a completely new skill-set. She settled on hairdressing, starting her apprenticeship in the second half of 2012.

“I would highly recommend you come to Sydney TAFE. It’s a great beginning step in setting you up in a great career.”

From Sydney TAFE to a degree

If earning a university degree is part of your long term plan, a higher-level TAFE qualification can really help.

The Salon Management Diploma is recognised by Southern Cross University.

You can apply for credit for the work you have already completed at Sydney TAFE, potentially reducing your total university study time by a third!

Build new career skills

Sydney TAFE offers you the opportunity of adding value to your skill-set through other programs, including short courses in specialty techniques such as long hair, men’s hair, and beard design.

We offer entry-level courses in hairdressing, barbering and retail make-up, through to diploma-level courses in salon management and specialist make-up services.
