Your career in costume or millinery

A career in costume means combining fashion and the arts to bring characters to life on stage or screen. You’ll research scripts, interpret briefs, create costumes and fit performers.

Millinery allows you to get ahead in another side of fashion by designing hats and headgear. You may focus on working for a production company or start your own couture line.

Create a pathway to the qualification you want

Create your own pathway from a certificate-level course all the way to degree at Sydney TAFE.

Some higher-level fashion and design courses offer credit transfer so you may be able to fast-track a degree, including credit towards Sydney TAFE’s Bachelor of Fashion Design.

If you are already working in the industry, Sydney TAFE can recognise your knowledge and life/work experience so you finish your qualification faster. You can apply for recognition of prior learning (RPL) so you don’t have to study what you already know.

Sydney TAFE Bachelor of Fashion Design

Get the best preparation to become a creative professional in fashion. This new three-year program emphasises creative design practice and offers a diverse educational experience to assist you to manage your creativity within the constraints of the business environment.

This fashion design course has a global fashion business perspective. Students stay on top of fashion business trends. When you graduate you will have the knowledge and skills to work as an independent design professional or member of a design team.
