You could become an early childhood educator, run your own childcare centre, become a nanny or work with children with special needs.

Sydney TAFE and your children's services career

Sydney TAFE gives you the advantage whatever the stage of your career.

  • Leaving school? Our programs and support services will teach you workplace practices, attitudes and the foundation skills to launch your great career.
  • Launching your career? The industry now requires workers to have formal qualifications. Our courses recognise your prior learning and experience.
  • Time for a change? Sydney TAFE recognises you as an individual with individual needs.

Getting your qualification faster and flexibly

Sydney TAFE can recognise your knowledge and life/work experience so you finish your qualification faster.

If you are already working in the childcare industry and want to build on your career, you can apply for recognition of prior learning (RPL) so you don’t have to study what you already know.

Sydney TAFE is always developing innovative ways to deliver its courses, including evening and online options. Our children's services courses include workplace learning in real childcare facilities so you learn in a real environment.

A varied and rewarding career

Sydney TAFE graduate Kylie Wratten works casually (her choice) as an educator at a variety of facilities including nursery, toddler, preschool and out-of-school-hours care.

“I also work with children who have additional needs which is challenging but rewarding, especially seeing the smiles or hearing the laughter from the children – or through parents seeing their child achieve something for the first time.

“I feel very privileged to be continuously involved in such a variety of childcare roles.”
